WOMAN magazine story
Following publication of their story in the Daily Mail – which went over two pages – we are delighted to see Karen Walker’s story in top magazine, Woman.
Their story of how Ruth got an eating disorder and mum Karen didn’t realise, also appears over two pages of the magazine.
Karen’s story is particularly poignant because as a teenager she too suffered from an eating disorder. Meanwhile, after training as a psychologist, she then specialised in eating disorders.
But life was extremely busy and what Karen didn’t realise was that Ruth was suffering from an eating disorder too.
Shockingly, she only found out when a teacher at Ruth’s school rang. She was concerned because staff had noticed Ruth had lost weight and had cuts on her arms.
Karen confronted Ruth and was devastated to find her daughter had hidden everything from her.
However, Karen got Ruth some specialist help and slowly Ruth got better. Ruth is now recovered and also campaigns for teenagers to talk about their problems. She wants to become a mental health nurse when she grows up.
