CLOSER magazine – real-life weight loss story…
* Susan Coombe lost 9st 9Ib dieting to have a gastric band op
* She exercised on her six year old son’s Wii.
We are thrilled to see Featureworld interviewee Susan Coombe looking so stunning over two pages in CLOSER magazine. Susan enjoyed every interviewee’s dream – a make over and professional photo shoot and she looks as amazing as her story is…
Originally weighing in at 19st 9Ib, doctors told 5ft 3″ Susan, 46, she had a BMI of 49, was severely obese and was borderline diabetes. But she was too heavy to be considered for a gastric band op – because at that size an operation on mum of one Susan would have health risks. So she was told to join a weight management course and lose 10 per cent (just under two stones) and she would then be considered for one.
Susan was really upset – her lively son Kai was just six and life with him had become a nightmare. He wanted to go to theme parks as his friends did but she couldn’t fit into the rides. In fact she struggled to keep up with him at all.
However, in the hope of getting her gastric band, she signed up for the weight management course – which was about healthy eating – but she failed to lose any weight. However, a few months later she bought a Wii for her son. And she enjoyed playing on the Wii so much with him that she began going on it to do exercise as well. Over the next couple of months the weight began to fall off. Susan began paying attention to the weight management course, swapping her 4000 calorie a day junk food for healthy food. She began to enjoy her new diet.
Then finally four months later the day she longed for had arrived – her appointment to have a gastric band. Only by now she’d lost four stones and after reading one day about a gastric op that went wrong, she had second thoughts. Her partner Paul was also worried – why did she want to put herself though such a major op? So she didn’t go to her appointment and kept on with the Wii exercise and healthy eating and two years on she now weighs 10st. Having been a size 24 for most of her life she is now a size 12. She has never felt better and is so delighted she didn’t end up having an operation to lose weight.
Susan wanted to tell others that losing a lot of weight is possible without resorting to expensive and sometimes risky surgery. She had read a lot about the unwanted effects of gastric surgery and is now so relieved she lost weight the natural way. She still plays on her Wii and goes to her weight management course to ensure she keeps the weight off.
Needless to say she can run around with son Kai.
We were delighted to help Susan celebrate her new figure by organising a photoshoot and make over in glamorous glossy Closer mag!
Susan says: “I really enjoyed the article and pictures. No-one could believe it was me! I appreciate everything you have done for me and if there is any more stories needed just contact me…”
