Family Feud story: Natalie Garner appears in CLOSER magazine …
Some of the saddest stories that come into Featureworld concern family feuds where loved ones fall out – often over something trivial – and don’t talk for years. Or sometimes the rift is never healed – the family feud lasts for ever and they never talk again.
Natalie Garner, 25, came to me with her family feud story. In August last year she wed husband Chris, 53, – but was devastated when her mum didn’t attend. Her brother and dad also refused to come to the nuptials because they don’t approve of the age gap between them.
And this week she appeared in Closer magazine which was doing a real life report about family feuds after it transpired that Corrie’s Samia Ghadie controversially banned her mum Patsy, 66, from her recent wedding over a series of rows.
Chris and Natalie told Closer how a similar devastating feud affected their wedding last year.
The couple met last year when they became neighbours and Chris helped Natalie through a bleak period in her life when she was suffering from bipolar disorder. Despite the fact decorator Chris is 28 years older than she is, they fell in love and Natalie was delighted when he proposed.
However, although her mum initially seemed supportive of their relationship, Natalie says she then said she had concerns over the age difference.
She says: “She then told me I had to make a choice between my family and marrying Chris.”
Natalie hoped her mum and family would come round. But sadly while Natalie invited her family, they did not attend their wedding in September 2015.
Natalie told Closer how upsetting it was – especially as she and her mum were once so close and she’d always imagined her mum would help her plan her wedding.
Natalie and Chris are now expecting a baby together and Natalie hopes her mum will want to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives.
It might be if her mum reads the article in Closer mag she will realise just how much the fall out has upset Natalie and the family can in the future be reunited.
