Jo Thompson’s story appears over two pages and on the cover of THAT’S LIFE magazine…
Anorexic confronts her fear of food – by getting a job in McDonalds and falling in love with the assistant manager…
From the age of 11 Jo suffered with anorexia. Her eating disorder was so severe that at one point her weight dropped to 4.5st and she was given 48 hours to live.
Over six years she was tube fed and sectioned twice under the mental health act. Eventually aged 17 she left hospital – but she was still severely underweight, doctors feared she’d irreparably damaged her body and would never have kids.
Experts had given up on ‘curing’ Jo of her eating disorder – everyone expected her to lose so much weight again she’d be back in hospital once again.
But this time Jo, who was desperate to get well, decided to confront her biggest fear. She got a job dishing out burgers and chips at McDonalds. Incredibly, the bizarre therapy worked and she began eating. At the same time she fell in love with the assistant manager.
Because of her past anorexia, she feared her extreme dieting might have affected her fertility and she might not be able to have kids. But with her partner – who still works for McDonalds – she now has two gorgeous children.
And Jo, now aged 20, is today fully recovered.
Jo’s story – along with beautiful photos of her looking great with her baby son and daughter – appeared in That’s Life magazine.
