Rachel Jones’ story appears on the front cover and over two pages of THAT’S LIFE magazine…

Rachel looking slim on her wedding day.
Rachel desperately wanted her dad to walk her down the aisle – but doctors said he’d be confined to a wheelchair within a year. The race to get married – and be a slim bride – was on…
Rachel, 33, was on a deadline to marry. Her dad, who suffers from motor neurone disease, was getting more unwell by the day. Doctors believed he would be unable to walk within a year and she desperately wanted him to walk her down the aisle.
But there was one problem – at 21 stones Rachel couldn’t bear the thought of being a fat bride. Her mum, 52, – who weighed 18 stones – also didn’t want to be overweight in the photos.
However, they had both tried diets – which had been unsuccessful. So they both decided to put their savings into having gastric band operations. Rachel underwent hers in August 2012 while her mum had hers done in September 2012.
But Rachel had another pressure to get slim fast. She had splashed out £600 on a wedding dress she’d fallen in love with – only it was a size 16. In the shop she couldn’t get it on – she couldn’t afford another dress so she had to diet to ensure she fitted it on her wedding day…
The weight fell off both Rachel and her mum – but they did panic because Rachel’s dress did seem very small…
“I tried it on every day,” recalls Rachel, “but there was a huge gap at the back where it didn’t fit. Incredibly the day before my wedding, I managed to do it up.”
Seven months later in April 2013 Rachel married.
She had her dream white wedding. Most importantly her dad did manage to walk her up the aisle, which was a very emotional moment. Just five months on and he was sadly unable to walk and confined to a wheelchair so she is delighted they got wed when they did.
And both Rachel and her mum adored their wedding photos showing them lovely and slim. Yet many guests had no idea that both of them had had gastric band surgery.
