Lesley Thorpe’s husband blamed her phone addiction for the break-up of their marriage – but then she dug up his secret wife! Story in TAKE A BREAK
Darren and Lesley on their wedding day
After her story about how mobile phones broke up her marriage appeared in The Sun newspaper, I placed a follow up with Take a Break mag.
Lesley met Darren Thorpe on a karaoke night and thought they were soulmates. But their problems began in 2007 when they swapped their old mobiles for smartphones.
In 2014 they finally married. And as we all do they posted photos of their wedding on Facebook from their smartphones.
Lesley played online games such as Candy Crush while Darren checked the footie results.
Yes, they were on their mobile phones a lot – Darren particularly moaned she loved Candy Crush more than him but Lesley said, ‘you’re just as bad always glued to your phone!’ but Lesley thought they still had a good relationship.
Lesley’s story in Take a Break
So when following a fabulous holiday to Portugal a year after they wed, Darren told her he was moving out, saying he didn’t think she loved him anymore, she was shocked.
That was until a few days later she stumbled on his laptop. His Facebook page was still open and there were lots of lovely dovey messages from a woman in Holland.
There was even an email confirming a ferry trip to Holland – obviously to her!
When she confronted Darren he denied it – but then said he had got a new job in …. HOLLAND!
Meanwhile Darren still refused to talk to Lesley about their relationship.
But weeks later he filed for divorce – because “My wife spent all her free times playing games on her mobile phone… it came to the point we didn’t speak.”
She was stunned – especially when she made a shocking discovery a few months later. For shortly before the divorce came through a friend contacted Lesley on Facebook asking who Darren’s new wife was.

Lesley was devastated to see photos of Darren online getting wed – when he’d still been married to her.
She reported it to the police and was shocked when they said it was ‘not in the public interest’ to prosecute.
But by now Darren’s new wife had discovered Darren was still married to Lesley when they wed. Lesley and Darren’s new wife got chatting. Darren’s new wife said they’d got talking on Facebook but as their wedding was deemed illegal, she was now seeking an annulment.
Darren said: ‘It’s private… I don’t want to talk about it.’
But Lesley wanted to get her story out in the open and I placed it in Take a Break mag where it appeared on the cover and over two pages!
