Keeping a diary reset my happiness button … story on MAIL ONLINE
Can keeping a diary ‘reset’ your happiness button?
Diary keeping may seem old fashioned.
But Mum Gemma Heaton, 33 claims simply writing down your hopes and dreams can change your life – from making you more successful, to being a better friend or spouse…
Gemma Heaton came to Featureworld to gain more publicity and raise awareness into a venture she had set up on Facebook.
To the casual outsider Gemma, 33, who is married to a property developer appeared to have everything. A wonderful home, a loving husband and two beautiful children.
But beneath the smile lay a woman who didn’t feel she had it all. In fact she felt as if she wasn’t really living but simply ‘existing’…
After almost losing her life during childbirth and then supporting her mother through cancer, Gemma, 33, had lost her spark.
Plagued with anxiety she suffered from panic attacks, sleepless nights and a pounding heartbeat.
She didn’t want to take anti depressants or see a therapist. So she tried self help books. They helped to a degree – because focusing on what was happy with her life, rather than the negatives, did help lift her gloom.
But it wasn’t until she decided to keep a diary that she managed to pull herself out of the dark hole she was in.
She has now devised her own book. Called Reset,The Happiness Project, it explains how anyone can reset their minds to step off the roundabout of life and find happiness.
Her ‘gratitude’ diary consists of writing down what has made you happy and what you have to be grateful for – it can be as simple as having food for breakfast. She found keeping photos inside it of loved ones also reminded her of the most important things in her life.
She also has lots of tips – from exercise, to favourite books, keeping a diary of hopes and dreams. For example, Gemma believes if you want something badly enough just focusing on it can help you to attain it.
Gemma said: ‘Thank you thank you thank You Alison ❤️
You are amazing. You told my story beautifully and I will always be forever grateful x’
