After appearing over two pages of the DAILY MAIL and TAKE A BREAK magazine, we are delighted that our interviewee Cherry Willoughby has had a book published. Cherry is now set to appear over two pages in another women’s magazine…
When Love is not Enough tells the tragic and cautionary tale of an adoption that went wrong.
When Cherry and her husband adopted two adorable little sisters, then aged three and six months, they believed a loving family, a beautiful home and most importantly, lots of love, would heal any of the wounds of the past.
For years the couple had endured IVF as they desperately tried for their own child. Now the only thing missing in their lives was children.
But in fact the adoption was to tear their lives apart. Cherry and her husband split and both girls ended up in prison.
This book focuses on the story of Maryann, the eldest daughter. As revealed in the newspaper and magazine articles, as despite their best efforts, she became more unruly – she was violent towards them and other children at school – they begged for help from social services. But none was forthcoming.
Eventually, and after years of hell which made her ill, Cherry made the heart-wrenching decision to put Maryann back into care.
But she is still there for Maryann. Indeed as her mum, she can never abandon her.
Following the article in the Daily Mail, a number of people contacted Featureworld to ask to be put in contact with Cherry. Many of them were adoptive parents who’d gone through similar nightmares and felt there simply isn’t enough help for families post-adoption. This inspired Cherry to write and self-publish her book, When Love is not Enough. She hopes that her book will help others who’ve also found adopting can be fraught with difficulties, to realise they are not alone – and that those difficulties are not their fault.
Featureworld has now placed Cherry’s emotional story over two pages of another top women’s magazine.
