Simon Metin’s story about how he overcame ‘boyhood anorexia’ to go to Cambridge University appears in the MAIL ON SUNDAY newspaper…
Medical student Simon has now become a YouTube sensation
Simon Metin came to Featureworld to tell how having been featured in a BBC documentary, I’m a boy anorexic, he is now studying to be a doctor at Cambridge’s King’s College. And he has now launched a series of webcams on YouTube about how he overcame his eating disorder…
Millions saw Simon on the BBC programme in 2007. Then he was aged just 15 and had been admitted to eating disorders clinic Rhodes Farm weighing just over four stones. Doctors had warned his family he was so ill, he could have just a month to live.
He was forced to leave his private school and spent two years at the clinic. Thankfully Simon went on to make a full recovery. Incredibly he gained a clutch of top GCSEs and A levels and is now studying medicine at Cambridge. He credits going to Rhodes Farm with inspiring him to become a doctor – and he hopes eventually to become a surgeon.
A few weeks ago he launched his first video blog about anorexia and was amazed and delighted when it gained over 1000 views straightaway.
He is now regularly video blogging on YouTube from his digs at Cambridge and has gained a massive following. He hopes that his blogs will help anorexics everywhere – particularly raising awareness of this disorder amongst young men – to see that you can recover from the eating disorder.
Simon’s video was uploaded to the MailOnline website, which also gave a working link to his YouTube channel so people can follow his webcams. We have also now gained Simon a deal with a magazine. He said: “I’m just about to go on CNN turkey. I literally cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me! “
